A few weeks ago I had the honor of presenting for a webinar series organized by colleagues at Montana State’s Western Transportation Institute. The goal of the series is to provide technical support on a variety of transportation issues to a working group of planners and professionals from Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, and I presented on some of our parking planning work from Yachats and Forest Grove and the lessons learned that could apply to other small city and ‘Main Street’ types of situations.
The crux of my talk focused on my simple three-step process for addressing parking problems in mixed-use neighborhood centers and main-street corridors. I think the general message there—in short, that there are a number of simple and cheap steps a city or town can take to address a budding parking problem that are often quite effective—is one that resonates widely. I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to continuing to build and share this content!
