Studio Davis is growing! We’ve got some exciting new projects in the door and have an immediate opening for a summer intern in transportation planning. See the description below and contact us to apply.

Modality: Mostly remote, with some on-site responsibilities in Portland, Oregon City, and Cornelius

Term/Pay information: The term of this position will run from June 15 to September 15, 2024. Stipend of $2,000/month, with an expectation of 80 hours/month ($25/hr equivalent). There is potential for ongoing or future work.

About us: Studio Davis is a small and dynamic planning firm with industry-leading expertise in areas including parking and curb-zone management, transportation and land-use policy, transit-friendly planning, and site planning. We aim to bring a high-minded and holistic perspective to transportation and parking planning, centering the concept of placemaking as the key goal of our work. Ours is a creative process that focuses on the unique opportunities and challenges of the places where we work, seeking to learn how transportation systems can support the goals of the place rather than the other way around.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position is a graduate or upper-level undergraduate student in urban planning who is seeking hands-on experience in transportation planning, parking policy and reform, and the intersections of transportation and place. A creative, can-do mindset, a passion for learning, and excellent writing and presentation skills are essential. Graphic design skills, policy wonkery, marketing chops, and GIS abilities are bonuses.

Description: The State of Oregon recently passed a new set of administrative rules known collectively as the Climate Friendly and Equitable Communities program (CFEC), which updates the planning rules established under SB 100 to be responsive to current challenges. A key piece of this is a nation-leading set of reforms to parking policy. The primary focus of this position will be helping Oregon communities implement and mitigate impacts from these reforms as part of three ongoing projects:

  • The Parking Management Jump Start Guide aims to provide a robust and current parking management toolkit specific to the contexts and issues faced by communities throughout Oregon. This position will be assisting with compiling initial research and writing into a formal and beautiful deliverable, designing the overall document and creating a number of infographics, and assisting with other aspects of writing and content creation.
  • A project in Cornelius aims to help the City identify the best strategy to comply with CFEC regulations. This position will be assisting with code research and development of new code language, and creating written and graphical content in support.
  • Lastly, this position will assist with a project in Oregon City to conduct outreach and public engagement to again help the City identify best way forward to comply with CFEC. The position will be helping to design the engagement program, produce posters, flyers, etc. in support of the engagement, and analyze/synthesize findings from the outreach.

Secondary responsibilities involve a number of elements of business development, including writing thoughtful content for the company blog or other publications, assisting with proposal development, and producing social media content.
