Transportation, Mobility, and Access

Transportation, Mobility, & Access Planning for Cities, Districts, and Redevelopment Areas

Studio Davis provides transportation, mobility, and access planning services for communities working to connect land use decisions with how people actually move. We help cities, agencies, and project teams understand the practical access needs of downtowns, neighborhoods, station areas, commercial districts, and redevelopment sites, then translate that understanding into clear recommendations that support walking, biking, transit, parking, curb access, and everyday circulation.

Our work is grounded in the experience of arriving in a place: where people enter, where they park, how they find their way, what routes feel safe or confusing, and where mobility systems help or get in the way. We focus on transportation planning that is useful to decision-makers, responsive to local conditions, and connected to implementation.

A Practical Approach to Mobility Planning

Transportation planning works best when it is tied to land use, public experience, and the specific decisions a community needs to make. Studio Davis approaches mobility as a system of choices and constraints, including street design, walking conditions, transit access, bike and micromobility connections, parking, curb activity, and development context.

Our work helps communities move beyond abstract mode-share goals toward practical strategies that improve access to real destinations. That may mean identifying missing pedestrian links around a transit station, clarifying circulation around a downtown, improving access to an affordable housing site, or helping a city understand how transportation and parking decisions affect redevelopment potential.

Our Transportation, Mobility, & Access Services

Experience Across Diverse Communities

Studio Davis has led parking planning work in communities of all sizes, from large and fast-growing urban centers to small and mid-size cities where parking decisions can have an outsized impact. Our experience ranges from dense streetcar corridors and downtowns, to coastal towns and neighborhood commercial districts, each with distinct constraints, politics, and priorities.

Much of our work is focused on small and mid-size cities, where limited staff capacity and tight budgets make clear, implementable parking strategies especially important. At the same time, we have supported parking planning efforts in larger cities including Portland, Oregon and Charlotte, North Carolina, where scale and complexity introduce different challenges but the same underlying need for data-driven decision-making.

Our nationwide project experience reflects a consistent approach: understanding local context, grounding recommendations in real data, and helping communities move from analysis to action. Regardless of size, we tailor each project to the place at hand and to the decisions cities are actually prepared to make.

Selected Project Experience

  • Passaic, NJ Transit Hub Plan

As Passaic prepared for a new downtown bus terminal, the City needed a clearer understanding of how the surrounding district could support transit riders, local businesses, and future development. Brian led a planning effort examining land use, parking policy, walking connections, and the broader mobility network around the station area. The goal was to help…

  • Peaceful Villa Neighborhood Transportation Study

Studio Davis was selected by Home Forward, a Portland housing authority that constructs and operates affordable housing communities, to perform a comprehensive study of transportation and parking impacts that will result from a proposed redevelopment of an existing affordable housing community in the Richmond neighborhood of Southeast Portland. This was a bit of a novel…

  • Spokane REACH West Central Consulting

Working with our partners at Woodsong Associates, Studio Davis is consulting the nonprofit REACH West Central on an ongoing neighborhood revitalization project in Spokane, Washington. REACH was created in part to help administer and support a new tax increment financing (TIF) district, a wonky financing model that allow for anticipated future growth in tax revenues…
