Studio Davis is currently leading a non-emergent medical transportation planning study for the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Planning and Development Council across eight rural West Virginia counties. The project addresses access to healthcare for people who cannot drive because of medical conditions, disability, or financial circumstances. Steep terrain, dispersed homes, and long travel distances make providing dependable service a complex planning and logistical challenge.
Working with local healthcare and transportation providers, Studio Davis is combining stakeholder engagement, field observations, GIS, and operational analysis to identify service gaps and work through how to close them. Our partners bring firsthand knowledge of their communities and experience delivering care and transportation. We translate that knowledge into service planning that accounts for the full journey: reaching rural homes, providing boarding assistance, coordinating transportation with appointments, and arranging a dependable trip home.
Studio Davis is building a practical, scalable framework that identifies where additional service is needed, how to build on existing providers’ capabilities, and what vehicles, staffing, scheduling, coordination, and funding will sustain it. The framework will give regional partners a concrete basis for organizing service, pursuing funding, and expanding coverage. People should be able to make a medical appointment knowing they have a dependable way to get there and get home, whether or not they can drive.
